Perdana, Collision!

Badluck, may have said it. 26th October, shortly a month after the car was painted looking spanking brand new!

I was parked at EA Autoworks waiting for a Viva to be done with a component set and front door soundproofing installation. As each of their employees were drilling both side of the doors and I was observing, we heard a loud THUD!

Funny how they looked at each other, thinking one or the other screwed something up. Then a friend which happened to be there came in telling me "eh bro your car kena langgar weyhhh. My friend's tow truck terlanggar your car!! sori sori sori I pay!!"

I was prepared for the worst, and calmly went out to see the result of the collision thinking what happened and saw the below :

A broken tail lamp, a deep gash right into the corner of the car. The truck apparently rubbed it's side into this corner of the car. My friend said he was towing a car all the way from Penang and was probably tired, which was acceptable. I was not at all mad as I understand that accidents happens and he has agreed to pay, so no worries on it.

I ain't gonna go "yo mofo! you bang ma ride!?"

As you can see on the above picture, the impact was quite strong and the paint chipped off till bare metal. The car has three layers of paint :

1. OEM white
2. Painted once with Sikken paint 10 years ago
3. Painted with PPG last month

You can see the difference in thickness and quality. The OEM paint was thin as hell, the Sikken paint was quote good of a quality as the previousowner of this car paid about RM2,800.00 for the paintjob but never really took care of it in terms of polishing.

As for the PPG paint, damn it was really thick. A small layer of clear coat came off and I peeled off. It looked real thick too. A result of four layers of painting.

The above picture shows the bottom part of the dent. My painter was surprised on how the paint did not crack but went in along with the metal. Paint stretching, not sure if you call it folding.

The tow truck? Nothing. We traded paints and he obviously won hahah.

Man... the size of the truck was huge. It was like one and a half times longer than a normal flatbed truck with it's sides being foldable. Not sure what kind of monster truck is that.

The driver has agreed to settle the damage. I've told him that the tail lamp original and it was going to be expensive to repaint that portion of the car, which he agreed to the sum of RM450.00 for the painting an RM280.00 for the tail lamp, both charged at cost.

Come to the think of it, it's quite pricey touching up this paintjob due to it's quality, especially the clear coat.

I will be sending the car in to Boon Fun for touch up after the long stretch of weekend and it will take approximately two days to get it done.

In the meantime, Happy Deepavali to all Indian customers and car enthusiasts!

Cheers

Elton
